CES 2019 exhibitors are getting ready to debut the year’s most innovative technologies to tech fans. nreal, the company that developed nreal light, designed stylish and colorful Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR) glasses that look like everyday sunglasses you’d take with you to the coffee shop, on a day out shopping, and to show off to your friends and family.

Stylish Smart Glasses are Arriving at CES

If you’re in Las Vegas from the 8th to the 11th, go visit nreal’s booth to talk to them about their lightweight MR glasses. The soon to be released wearable isn’t bulky like an HMD, nor is it as alien looking as other AR and MR glasses are. Which makes me think, where do they put their 360-degree speakers? It also comes with voice command but goes the Magic Leap route with one haptic controller.

The nreal light weighs a bit more than the sunglasses you already might wear at 85 grams. It has a frame that has a modest 52-degree field of view and its lenses come with 1080p resolution and comes with two cameras. The outward facing cameras are located at the edges of the rounded frames but don’t protrude, which keeps the design smooth.

New wearables with the most advanced processing power are expected to be limited on the battery life. nreal light’s come with Snapdragon 845 Mobile VR Platform and get worn for hours.

Changing Our View of the World Around Us

Looking at the world through these specs will, no doubt, have a ripple effect on how we view and interact with the world around us. The company aims to change how we interact with our environments, but also how we collaborate at work, in gaming, and a number of other potential uses. The glasses are tentatively priced at $1,000 and are aiming for release in Q3 of 2019.

Not only can we provide a truly immersive experience, but we can also make it accessible by everyone, easily, and in a very comfortable fashion”, said Chi Xu, founder and CEO of nreal.

The nreal light smart glasses have SLAM resolution or Simultaneous Localization and Mapping algorithms that track environments and keep a view of the real world intact while viewing other avatars and overlays. If you wear glasses, they’ve made it so that you can order prescriptive lenses for them instead of layering glasses on top of each other.

Since the creation of mobile phones, music players, VR headsets, and wearables, there’s one major design point that many consumer devices have to hit — portability. While not wireless, nreal light comes with a USB-C port that connects to its computing pack kind of like Magic Leap One’s light pack. nreal’s design also allows the glasses to plug into PC and Mac laptops, smartphones, and other devices.

iQIYI, a company that recently helped raise $15 million for the smart glasses developer, gave a statement. Zhang Hang, Senior Director of iQIYI imparted, “The evolution of mixed reality glasses not only allows audiences to have greater freedom of watching and interaction, but also enables content creators to produce more immersive experiences for users.”

“iQIYI believes that with the popularization of mixed reality hardware, there will in future be a greater range of choice in original content and user experience especially adapted for MR devices. We are optimistic about the potential of the ‘fourth screen’ and are looking forward to shaping the future of entertainment viewing experience with more partners such as nreal.”
